CHAPO CRÉATION X MONDE SINGULIER

Chapo Création

Chapo Création has the mission to cherish the heritage of the famous designer Pierre Chapo. The story of Pierre Chapo as a designer begun after the war when he took the entrance exam for architecture at the Beaux Arts in Paris. The classics, Greek, Roman, the masters of the Bauhaus, Frank Lloyd Wright, Buckminster Fuller, Le Corbusier, Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe and many others inspired him. After returning from a trip to North America with his partner Nicole, they opened the Chapo Gallery in the Paris 5th arrondissement in 1958. Alongside his first pieces of furniture, he exhibited decorative objects, lighting, crockery, ceramics and Scandinavian design furniture. In his father-in-law's wood workshop in Clamart, he made his first models on his own, including the L01, known as the Godot bed, commissioned by Samuel Beckett, the T01 table and the S01 stool. Not far from there, on Boulevard Saint Germain, Steph Simon, Knoll, Sentou and La Maison des Métiers d'Art were all established. Artists, projects and work intersected, intermingled, supported or competed with each other: Scandinavia, Les Arcs, Serge Mouille, Charlotte Perriand, the Modulor, Georges Jouve, Japan, Simone Prouvé, Georges Candilis, Arne Jacobsen and Isamu Noguchi. Over the years, more than 100 designs created by Pierre Chapo have seen the light of day. Many of these designs will go down in the history of twentieth-century design.
